2x No offers, both before AF posted. Did not use the C word, or at least did not use it in a manner that suggested that we really might do it.

After AF posted: Used the C word. Got the AF waived (posted charge to be reviewed) and the 5,000 miles for $1,000 spend in 90 days.

Since this means that there will also be another 10,000 miles before next need to seek waiver, one way of looking at this is 16,000 AA miles for $1,000 spend, or 16miles/$. Even with the declining value of AA miles, this is a nice deal, assuming the Republic survives long enough to collect next annual 10K.
