Hyatt has the rule you're thinking of and it is pretty much worthless at many properties because they just play games with the room categories and minimum stay requirements. Marriott is so much better than Hyatt in terms of properties making awards available it is not even funny. It's not all about the program rules, but also the properties' attitude toward the loyalty program.
