Personally, I wouldn't bother with business class. I haven't tried riding the train during, say, Comic-Con, but I know that around the holidays they require advance purchase of tickets on that route; I haven't heard of that being required at any other time but then again, I don't ride Amtrak that often.

On the other hand, if the extra money is worth peace of mind, go for it.
