I have recently gotten really good fares on flights within 2-3 days of departure.

LAS-DAL $114 on Thursday for a return Sunday evening
LGA-DAL $99 on Friday for a return Sunday

Both flights had around 10 open seats at time of booking. LAS went out with only a few empty, we will see about LGA.
