Not strictly correct, EK issues mobile BPs in many countries where document checks are required, it just beeps at the gate and they check there, happens to me every single time I fly out of CPT unless I check a bag and they do the doc check then
I've also had it done at the lounge the only time I've gone with hand bagggage only. It must have flagged up when they scanned my boarding pass and they said it would save time at the gate if I did it there and then.
