I am also surprised that they didn't charge you well in advance rather than after the date of stay for a prepaid rate. Does the cc you used have trip interruption insurance? Might be worth persuing a claim there.

Have you managed to talk to the property's management? That would also be an avenue that I would try to take first. And then try to push the up button at Marriott to get past the delightful form paragraph cs agent
