I can see the attraction of PTV in Y on JAL, but there are a few things that will keep me flying ANA.

1. Their membership in Star, as opposed to no membership in an alliance of JAL. This has to be one of the most important differences, because I have elite status on AC and it won't be recognized on JAL.

2. ANA do have PTVs in Y, it's just only on US routes excl. IAD. So LAX, SFO, ORD and JFK all have PTVs. Also (don't know why, but) Ho Chi Minh and Bangkok/Mumbai service has the PTVs in Y as well. Since I only fly on European routes, I have yet to experience the PTV service but it's not one of my most important criteria anyway.

3. Although I can't compare the two because I haven't flown JAL yet, I find ANA's FAs genuinely pleasant. I have to experience the stark comparison between ANA and United when I transit from LHR to Seoul through NRT, and let me tell you, it's a whole different game indeed. (United FAs are there for safety, not to serve passengers... )

I guess this doesn't apply to Japanese residents, but the tickets are so cheap ex-Korea to Europe and others. It's about US$450 for a R/T to Europe from Seoul. Also, I heard a B/C R/T from BKK to LAX is only about US$1100

Well, enough ranting, it depends on personal preferences of course, but me, I think I'll always be a loyal ANA fan!
