This is a lost cause. OP is not connecting because he is on separate tickets. SFO has a bag cutoff at T-45. This means that if his HA flight is on time, he has 20 minutes from wheels locked at the gate to retrieve his luggage and schlep it to UA. That won't happen. UA will cancel OP's ticket and he will then be at UA's mercy for rebooking (unless he has a flexible ticket, in which case he will simply have to wait for an onwards seat).

Better to get this fixed now, either with different routing or flights, than to wind up purchasing SFO-ORD at walk up prices.
