In the old days it used to be 747-400, these days it rotates between a 787-9 ( perfect for the route) or 777.
Was chatting with another pax on the flight, we both agreed it would be a tragedy for any true First service departing from Russia not to offer caviar. BA does a somewhat classy job vodka and accompaniments, though the nice champagne ( the Grand Siecle?) comes in limited supply, and i've caught the crew pouring the cheaper club world stuff it in my glass expecting that I would not notice. I did notice. It tastes different !
There are regular commuters on this route, paying F fares, so BA can afford a bit of fish eggs, and posh bubbly.
Since the flight leaves around 1600-1700, My routine is usually to ask the crew to prepare tea, and in F its done with all the china, teapot, biscuits etc, followed by dinner. Caviar, Lobster, Champagne, some wine, dessert and cheese. The flight is 4 hour hours, which is just enough to complete the whole ritual. I never got to fly the Concorde, the flight time is roughly the same, so I suppose BA has experience in pulling off such a feat the same amount of time. Too bad smoking is no longer allowed on airplanes, as the lights of London show up, 4 hours after leaving Moscow, I'm ready to light a cigar and have spot of brandy.
The regular commuters I've seen on the flight usually sleep though most of it, though there are a few that relish the whole thing. Why not.
Sorry if it wasn't clear. I was on the 777 rotation out to DME and back. That's the only DME rotation operated with a widebody departing LHR around 0830, and departing DME around 1645. It's the only rotation to DME with an F cabin. Here were the menus out and back. Loads in F were about 4/5 each way. No lobster or caviar. Talking to the crew they didn't believe caviar was offered on the route anymore.
When were you last on? Have you got some photos of the menu? It would be great to see caviar back on.
