What about through passengers who were allowed to/asked to deplane. When I've left the plane as a through pax I've noticed that the process to account for us re-boarding is hideously manual.
I've done this a few times on longer layovers. It is a manual process and you have to show ID to get back onboard and could cause a headcount issue. Except a deplaner is rare and would likely rush back to avoid the boarding crush and preserve their seat & carryon's.
It just happens to much to be this IMO.
