The latest update regarding my friend. It was his final validation flight to become a Captain, he was in command. ( you could not really make this up)

With smoke coming into the cockpit, the flight crew put on oxygen masks and made plans to divert to SNN. Cabin crew made the cabin secure

A lot of comms would have been coming out of the flight deck, back to the CSM, ATC etc., Checklists being run through etc.

The plane landed without incident, the flight crew positioned the A/C back to LHR this morning.

Training captain told my friend, as far as he was concerned based on what happened, he had passed. But flight training needed to confirm this due to not completing the full sector and the subsequent return.

The great news, he is now a Captain . A very down to earth guy that self-financed his career, he was in Florida flying DC3s many years ago to get his hours up and fulfill his dream.
