Yes, via MIA the luggage would go through, but not via JFK. There's probably something to be said for rechecking it in the USA anyway, to be sure. One option perhaps is to try the LCY service, while it is still around. Less so on the night service to LCY, more so on the return. And yes the BA flights will count as Eligible Flights (whether booked as BA or AA codeshare), as would an AA flight if it was booked as a BA codeshare.
