Protect and ship.
Best case scenario: TSA, oversized baggage interceptors, gate agents let you take it onboard, ate happy to stow the item in a closet or other available space. You’re home free.
So-so case scenario: At some point you are prohibited from proceeding and have to make a decision to ditch the item or hand it off to someone you know who accompanied you at the airport, stow it in your parked car (potentially losing your flight) or sending it home or to friends in a taxi.
Worst case scenario: You’re required to gate check it. It gets improperly labeled to your destination, gets stowed in the baggage hold by the baggage handlers and on arrival is missing or on the carousel in splinters, crushed by oversized, heavy baggage.
Only one answer - pack it well, ship it or take it. “Pack it well” being crucial.
Alternative scenario: Carefully remove the document from its framing, roll up and place in a hard, protective cardboard roll and carry it onboard. Get a nice, bew frame at the documrnt’s dextination.
