There's no direct flight from Xi'an to LA so there's going to have be a layover and transfer. From Xi'an to LA, I'm looking at one way tickets that will do a domestic flight from Xian to the layover city, either Changsha or Xiamen, and then do a transpacific flight on the same airlines and ticket to America from that layover city.
It looks like Xiamen and Hainan airlines both use the same airplane, the Boieng 787 for that transpacific flight, but I'm reading about all the financial issues Hainan is dealing with right now with missed payments and suspended trading of their stock so I think it might be safer to avoid that Hainan flight in case that might affect their flights.
Yes, and I would personally go with Xiamen Airlines over Hainan just for the better stopover quality of Xiamen vs Changsha. The financial problems of the HNA group could possibly affect their ability to field their complete roster of flights any time now. It wouldn't be a tragedy on a China domestic flight since the other airlines could (would) be forced by the government to pick up the slack or Hainan forced to keep flying with....but on an international flight all bets are off, and the stakes are much higher for getting an alternative flight or airline. Especially if you will be using a heavily discounted economy ticket.
