Planning a trip from Rio de Janeiro to LHR in April. The lowest price I can get for a CW return on BA is $3300. However, looking at AA, I can get GIG>JFK>LHR return in business class for about the same price (maybe $3600). I would also have the option of an 11 hour stopover in JFK to go shopping, otherwise I could choose just a couple of hours layover. Would I be correct to assume I will get only 280 TPs for the BA route, but double that (560) for AA route? Getting 580 for this trip would guarantee Silver renewal and take away any pressure to fly again during my TP collection year. So, given that I'm not in a hurry and don't mind sitting around in business class lounges and cabins, surely the AA is a very attraction option under these circumstances?
