A few years ago we were transitting MIA from CDG and my wife took off her $1200 Burberry jacket and put it in our luggage right before rechecking it. The clerk seemed to pay particular attention to this. When we returned home the Burberry was missing along with a few other items. AA paid for it all at retail prices. IIRC I was EXP at the time. 20 years prior I had the same thing happen on UA between TPA and our home (delayed baggage delivery involved). YMMV. I was unrelenting in getting paid despite their insistance it was a homeowners claim (will raise your rates). And ignore their insistance THEY have a deductible on their claims You should pay.

How on earth they can find people to carry out this kind of pettiness I dont know. Do NOT give them your SS # for the claim.
