Well to answer my own question it's ridiculously fast. Especially when they take your non-schengen arrival bus and drop you at the Schengen arrivals door so there was no passport check at all!!!
Luckily I'm on a European passport so I shouldn't have problems but I could imagine someone on a visa running into problems when leaving.

Going through Schengen arrivals from a non-Schengen flight shouldn't happen of course, but I can confirm that even when your passport is checked, it's an incredibly quick process at TRN. They have very few non-Schengen arrivals [in winter, it seems to be various London services, a couple to Romania, Morocco and not much else]. Departures is equally quick - there's none of the detailed scanning and checking you may see elsewhere.
