Multi carrier booking with avios
Hi all,
I'm looking at building a BA avios award itinerary to oz and have read a lot on here about the rules and methods and noticed something strange going on with the award search tool. Last year I made a booking with multiple carriers which had different classes, and the avios price and taxes ended up being the same whether i had the higher class on one leg or not. As long as I combined the return with a different (non BA) carrier it priced under the multi award chart for the class of the majority of flights. Now I noticed that this no longer works as I'm unable to even find return availability for the same flight now. If i search for each leg (i.e. Lon - Aus with a layover) separately the availability shows, but if i search for the same dates as a return trip, where i see award availability one way for each date, BA tells me there are no flights available. I know i'm being obtuse here but i'm not sure into how much detail I should go, after reading other threads about this topic. It's frustrating as I had to cancel the trip last year (which was a great deal) and now i'm unable to book it, and am concerned to call in case i go down the rabbit hole of trying to explain to an agent what I was able to do last year.
I did read something on another post where there was a mention that the price didn't increase as long as the longest leg was in the lower class, but it trailed off into requests to PM. If someone knows where I'm going with this i'd appreciate some advice!
I also noticed that MH availability doesn't seem to show past september, and also tends to fail to show availability even then, unless i search for separate one way trips. Kind of frustrating!
Again, sorry for being vague but I'm happy to give more detail if it's appropriate.
Cheers
