I would be a bit more cautious with high end skis in the proverbial wind. If they are lost or stolen or even damaged, the Montreal Convention maximum will be fair market value to a maximum of approx. GBP 1,150. Anything paid out in interim expenses is included in that maximum.
All much easier with travel insurance, but simply spending a lot of money and then finding that high end replacements are also required at some point can leave a passenger out quite a bit.
