When checking in for NH 7 today in F, my wife and I each got $40 in prepaid Amex cards from the check-in agents as proactive compensation for the lounge situation. The person checking in next to us in J got $20. The cards were wrapped in a note saying "The UA CLUB Lounge is currently closed for renovation. Please use the gift card in any stores which accept AMEX card (in USA ONLY). This card is valid until the 5/20/2018. We apologize to those who use this service, and we thank you for your understanding."
As I recall, there was no mention that we could use the lounge at all.
We went to the lounge (the former United Global First Lounge between G98 and G100, now the "Temporary International Lounge*" for all *A premium passengers and
not to be confused with the old United Club that has closed to become the Polaris Lounge) and got in with no trouble, but then we had to wait about ten minutes for anywhere at all to sit to open up. Kind of a rough situation, but I'd call that pretty decent compensation.
The
Polaris Tracker recently updated to say the lounge would open in summer of this year, but when I asked around a month ago, none of the SFO people seemed to believe it.
