Move USA (New York) - Strategy for points, status & 241 vouchers
Hi All,
I've been looking from afar at this forum for several years actually but thought I would take the plunge to join today and try and contribute where I can, but this will be my first post and i'm after any advice or suggestions you have! I am potentially moving to the USA (near New York) for 3 to 5 years later on this year.
Current facts and status:
- Silver member with BA and have status until March 2019, points balance around 500,000.
- Current Virgin member and we have cira 500,000 points between us
- Family of 4 with two young kids
- Both me and my partner have a AMEX Premium card in the UK earning the 2 for 1 voucher which is amazing for a main holiday each year!
- Gold and Platinum cards with AMEX preparing to transfer our previous history of credit to the USA (been advised this is the best thing to do to start to get credit as AMEX are one of the few to transfer credit history!).
USA flight schedule is potentially is going to be:
- 3 to 4 visits back to the UK in Premium Economy (BA not guaranteed, but always comes up cheapest with our company)
- Domestic flights in the USA adhoc (3 - 4 a year)
Goals
- Visit back to the UK once each year as a family
- Continue our BA Premium credit cards in the UK to keep earning the 2 for 1 voucher so we can all travel back business class once a year from New York (I've been advised that the 2 for 1 voucher can only work when departing the UK, so would need to work this out!)
- Continue with lounge status for other holidays we might take throughout the year where possible.
- Start earning miles in the USA as soon as possible and find the best AMEX card for both my partner and I to move to (intro points are a bonus!)
Any advice from anyone please on what to do and how to make the most of our travels back to the UK once a year plus benefits for earning/spending in the USA. Thank you for anyone who can help :-)
