I am 65, and use my smart phone for almost all of my travel needs. I have the airline apps, hotel apps, rental car apps, and TripCase as well as the find it apps for restaurants etc. My mom is 92 and uses her smart phone to not only chat with us, but also to get an Uber to take her where she needs to go, play games, synchronize her Weight Watchers app with her Fitbit, check weather, and all kinds of other things. She actually uses her smart phone MORE than her laptop now. I still do complicated searches and planning for trips on either my laptop or desktop, but have no issues with booking direct, either with an app or direct online. Go ahead and get a smart phone, you too will become addicted to having the world at your fingertips - LOL
