Thanks so much for the review and photos, FlyingDoctorwu!

Your thoughts (and everyone else's, it seems) pretty much reinforce what I've gathered from the PHNY thread in the Hyatt Forum--this hotel has a nice hard product (if you like contemporary and minimal) and a disappointing if not downright poor soft product. For it being the brand flagship, wow--talk about underwhelming.

But I'm glad it worked for you!

I gotta say that the room/suite design reminds me more of a nicer W/Edition than a PH. The PH designs in Sydney and Istanbul are just as modern and yet far more appealing and inviting, especially in the rooms, themselves. The bathroom is really the only part of the suite/room that really impressed me, to be honest--it's a successful modern and refined look, which might explain why that design is the same for the pool area! The tile behind the bed and forced bed cabinetry seem surprisingly inexpensive to me, however.

I love a modern, clean look (our home is designed in that style), but a successful execution really requires that the materials and design be high end, inviting/warm in some manner, and not so cookie cutter. I don't think the PHNY succeeds in the room/suite.

To me, the PHNY is trying a bit too hard on hard product...and obviously not trying hard enough on soft product! For this being expensive with rates/points and supposedly one of the best, I expect excellent service--and the PHNY clearly doesn't deliver. I'll pass.
