I am planning a trip to the US for business next month (well March) but close enough, I would like to maximise TPs as the demise of Qatar as a gateway to the ME as robbed me of TPs as QANTAS fares are very unrewarding. I see the best option is to start in Dublin but has anyone had any experience of losing TPs if you walk out at LHR on the way back? I may be pushed for time so would like the option to escape with my hand luggage...

As pointed out you will get the TPs for the flights you actual take. However, if you book through a TA there is a slight possibility that the TA may be charged for the actual flights you took. There is one reported instance (to the best of my knowledge) of this so is not widespread. But remains a possibility.
