I simply put a hold on this then call AA who are able to tell me the fare in £ which I pay. £ is the same as what matrix showed to begin with.
I am having the same issue, always the US site and never the UK, despite what currency and country combination I use. I was fine recently as all AA fight numbers, so put on hold and automatically converted to GBP when I called the UK number. No such luck when there are BA flight numbers and no option to put on hold.
