I'm flying into Sydney on December 14 and leaving on January 14. It will be my first time visiting Australia.

Right now I'm still trying to figure out exactly how much I will be planning in advance. I don't want a very hectic schedule; I'd rather just keep things loose and play it by ear whenever possible.

That said, is there any particular city that would be considered the "best" place to visit for New Year's Eve? Keeping in mind that I'm somewhat young (23) and would like to enjoy the best, uh, scenery that is available

Based on some past threads I've read, I have a feeling the answer is going to be Sydney. Since I also want to visit Perth, Melbourne, Auckland and a few other cities, I might try to switch my inbound or return flight to Melbourne (I'm flying on United) just so I'm not in the same place three times.
