I wonder why they even put the Honors number into the booking if they were taking the line that benefits shouldn't apply?
Some hotels will give you benefits unofficially, but they don't have to.
As mentioned by OP, the property is giving some form of benefit aka stay / night credit.
Also, if there are incidentals, those incidentals usually get some points (except Hamptons).
