The Thief, Oslo, Norway

Introduction The Thief is a stylish boutique hotel in Oslo, Norway. With recent inclusion in Harper's Bazaar 100 greatest hotels in the world and it made the Condé Nast Traveller Gold list in 2018. It has an excellent location on the waterfront in the Aker Brygge restaurant and business area with lots of other restaurants, bars and shops nearby. It is considered one of the best in Oslo. The style is modern and trendy and is 'themed' around art with inclusion of lots of original artwork. Check In Check in was smooth and efficient. We were a little surprised that at this five star hotel they didn't offer to help us with our bags to the room. However, I was told to manage my expectations about service in Norway and not to expect levels to be as high as elsewhere. Room For our one night stay we chose a deluxe room and honestly I don't think that the rooms represent good value for money but again I was expecting that. The room was a decent size (30 sqm / 323 sqft) and was modern and well kept. I loved the sumptuous fabrics and colours in the room and artlovers will appreciate that the rooms have original artwork from famous artist. There's a drawer packed with essentials available to buy should you forget your toothbrush, underwear, sleep mask etc. Bathroom is fine for a city hotel, one sink and Carita amenities. The best bit about the room is the balcony overlooking the waterfront. All rooms have a balcony. Service As mentioned check in was efficient and service in the bar and restaurant was excellent. As mentioned there was no offer to help us with our luggage. When I tried to call reception in the evening no one picked up the phone and it took several tries to get through. Dining We didn't try the hotel's restaurant The Thief Food Bar but it is a popular restaurant in the city. We ate at Hanami, a sushi restaurant located opposite the hotel. We were unable to get a booking at three-Michelin star Maaemo so fellow food lovers may want to book well in advance. Hanami was a great choice for us though as the food was excellent and the atmosphere was buzzy. We had breakfast in the restaurant - it's a small but perfectly formed buffet of high quality local produce. There's no a la carte menu but eggs can be made on request. We did have drinks in the hotel's bar and the service and atmosphere was great. It's known to be one of the trendiest bars in the city. Both bar and restaurant as beautifully decorated with original artwork. There's a rooftop bar in the summer. Location One of the best things about this hotel is the location. The waterfront position is not only beautiful but it is also very convenient for bars and restaurant. Overall Apart from a few small service issues I would highly recommend this hotel as both a stylish and well located property in the capital of Norway. Admin - I have lots of photos but don't seem to have permission to post? Here's a link to the blog post that I wrote aout the hotel: http://www.silverspoonlondon.co.uk/2...the-thief.html
