The main problem is that the 789 is the perfect aircraft for EWR-India, but they none are based at EWR, so maybe they could fly a SFO-EWR-HYD-EWR-SFO route (like how IAH-SYD is rotated because no 789s are based at IAH).
Do you think EK even care about profitability as much as UA? Instead of thinking about expanding to secondary cities, UA needs to first to make sure the current margin on its current India routes is maintained with this flight.

That being said, I don’t think the impact will be significant as others have said it is a shift from JFK to EWR.
