At any time in the past few decades Australian NZ airlines could have flown CBR trans Tasman, not none have done so. They know the market.
Its only the taxpayers of Canberra and rate payers of Wellington that keep SQ at their airports.

Most people have no idea (or care) what aircraft they are flying on. For many people only 3 things are important: price, price & price.
Here on FT far too much emphasis is put on ffp & aircraft type/seats/services than what happens in the real travelling world. To most flyers these are not important or a factor in choosing a flight.
