I second that. My car broke down last December and I didn't get another car until February. During that period, I mainly used the bus to get around. It is not an efficient system at all.
If you plan to go from the airport to your hotel and then either walk around downtown or sleep all day in your hotel, the bus is fine. If you want to do any traveling at all, don't count on it.
See
www.peoplemover.org for Anchorage bus schedules, routes, and information. Most buses run on an hourly schedule (half-hourly in peak time), but the coverage of the city isn't terribly good and the routes aren't direct. (It took me an hour and fifteen minutes to get from home to work by bus. It normally takes me 15 minutes by car.)
The one nice thing about the PeopleMover: it's free with a UAA student ID. :-D
