jackal, many thanks for your information. We'll be in ANC in June so I presume this is the start of summer (suppose it really gets going in July). I've got Oz issued cards, so I'll take my chances.

After coming back to ANC from DUT (by ferry mid June) we have a week in the area and will either rent a car or use public transport. In any case, I have some homework before deciding.
