May be at HKG and CX, they would be more strict.

We once flew ZAG-DOH-SYD, on a one way award ticket flying Qatar. The exit ticket was SYD-BKK-HKG flying TG again a one-way award ticket.
We barely made our connection at DOH - a very short connection but it changed from a bus gate to a gangway - this truly messed things up as now meant we had to go thru transit security from one side of the terminal on arrival to the other side of the same terminal for departure with a total barrier between the 2 sides. To top it off our departure gate was also at the most far end of the departure side. if it was a bus gate we would just be whisked off to our aircraft for SYD instead.
At the entrance of the departure gate, all the agent asked was whether we had the Australia ETA. Answered positive and he just sent us thru. Not a single question about how would you leave Australia. He would clearly see our ticket was just one-way.
Upon arrival SYD, nobody asked about our exit tickets.

A caution to call BAEC because they are not 24/7 and close on weekends. We really had issues trying to cancel BKK-HKG Avios ticket (booked envision we would stay in BKK and ditched the BKK-HKG but later changed our mind and decided to keep the original itinerary). We did not bring our CC used to pay the fee on the Avios ticket thus unable to cancel it online. We could not call due to ALL BAEC offices were closed either due to weekend or due to time zone difference. So if you go the BAEC route, take consideration on the operation hours of their offices and make sure you have the CC used to pay the fees with you should you need to cancel it online.
