I booked on 4th Jan with SQ on Q & N class and have been able to now choose forward zone seats for free. My booking includes complimentary standard zone as we're travelling with our children but under my KrisFlyer membership on the seat change page (no status) it also says forward zone is complimentary. I can only speculate but this must be to honour previous booking conditions. I've selected forward zone seats in 3 of 4 sectors for no cost. The 4th sector doesn't have any suitable forward zone seats for us.
A possible explanation for this discrepancy could be that the cut-off date for extending this courtesy isn't Jan 20th when new fare structure came in but somewhere between Jan 4 and Jan 14 when the above ticket was booked. It doesn't make logical sense though since the tickets were purchased under the old fare classes and their T&C with complimentary advance seat selection when seats became available.
Perhaps it was the date in which the new fare classes were first announced somewhere between those two dates. That wouldn't matter either since there was no indication that there was any change in the old fare class T&C.
They really should do this for ANY ticket purchased under the old fare structure as long as they were selling them until Jan 20.
Not sure what the recourse is. Impossible to get their customer service on phone in the US number and no response so far to their email address for reservations.
