Personally, if you asked, I'd move to the aisle cuz that's what I like. If you didn't say anything, I wouldn't either and would take my middle seat and be fine with it (I don't mind the middle and I don't mind kids).
On principal = cutting off your nose to spite your face.
I always book aisle/window and happy for one of us to move to the middle if someone shows up. But if he really wants that middle seat "on principal" then he can have it (and I will be rolling my eyes and chuckling)
