The Mrs. just booked AC flights to Havana using Avion points, and because Cuba is involved, they can't book it with their engine, so they told her to book on AC.com and then call in to have the points deducted to cover the flight.

Not sure whether this same option is permitted for other flights, but it might be worth a look.
