All in all, we were landside with luggage in less than fifteen minutes, most of which consisted of slaloming down gangways and looking for the right color luggage section in the big warehouse that serves as a landing facility. Didn't really miss GE.

Comparing my experience to some of the posts above from Port Everglades, I get the impression that unlike the airport, the MIA seaport may actually be preferable to Fort Lauderdale.
Years and years ago, like 30+ years ago, before the cruise industry boom of the 1990’s Miami was the major cruise port in Florida. Today it still gets some cruise business but nowhere near the Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale traffic. Obviously you can still use FLL for flights and get to and from Miami but there simply aren’t a lot of choices.
