Coming back to MIA yesterday, there was no GE anything anywhere. However, the line was short and the CBP officer asked me only two questions:
"Anything to declare?"
"I have some souvenirs made out of wood."
"Processed wood?"
"Yes."
"Go ahead."
All in all, we were landside with luggage in less than fifteen minutes, most of which consisted of slaloming down gangways and looking for the right color luggage section in the big warehouse that serves as a landing facility. Didn't really miss GE.
Comparing my experience to some of the posts above from Port Everglades, I get the impression that unlike the airport, the MIA seaport may actually be preferable to Fort Lauderdale.
