  • E+ with UA Gold sitting in emergency exit row towards middle/end of cabin on UX flight when back washroom is in use
  • First two scenarios except on international long haul itinerary (i.e. EWR -> ZRH)
  • Above scenarios with super-elite status (i.e. 1K or Global Services)
  • Above scenarios as a kettle
I don't suspect the first two are faux pas on account that I could have easily been upgraded into F via CPU if luck was on my side.
I don't think status enters the equation. It's a faux pas (in the sense of "embarrassing or tactless social blunder" but the standard connotation of "a mild one that shows your lack of class") to cross the curtain in the increasing-cabin direction, period. There are situations where I don't think anyone is going to get upset, like if you really need to use the lavatory but there is a drink cart blocking access to the Y lavs.

But I just think it's rude to intrude in the F cabin. Sometimes you need to break protocol when there's a need, but most of the time you don't. In all of the above scenarios, I think you should be using the Y lavatories. When was on Row 7 on a 738, even as a 1K on a busted RPU, I did the long walk to the back of the plane to use the lavs.
