Yes, I agree - whenever I am waiting for F to open I set alerts on ExpertFlyer for when F drops to F4 (from F5), F3, F2, and so on. I just don't think its necessary to look at award space everyday or purchase an AwardNexus subscription for prior to T-14. I do use AwardNexus if I need a J seat on the same flight (and I will search for J and F), and have never seen F open up before T-14.
The only thing I'd add is that when flights are F6, I do occasionally see an F award released between the initial and 2 week goalposts. For example, there's an F award hanging out there JFKHKG 31JULY18 which seems pretty soon...and it was NOT part of the initial release at the 355 day mark. Popped up a few weeks ago. But this obviously doesn't help anyone on F5 or lower flights.
Point is, if you want an award and a flight is F6, I WOULD check daily as something could open.
