Here is my experience:
1. Traveled to India in Dec. Scheduled an appt and visited the PSK in Hyderabad (Begumpet) on the morning of Dec 28. I did not have any of the recommended ID/Address proof documents such as Aadhar, PAN and Voter ID. All I had was my driving license.
The person at the first counter first refused to accept it, but then later changed his mind after consulting colleagues. People at subsequent counters also asked for my Aadhar but then accepted the driving license. Person at the 2nd counter updated the "living since" date to the date when I landed in India.
2. Got a text message later in the evening about the police officer assigned to my case. Police officer contacted me the next morning and visited my home promptly to verify. He didn't bother to check any of the documents, all he asked was for my photos and signatures of two of my neighbours as witnesses. I didn't offer him any bribe and he also didn't seem to give any indications. He quickly left after getting my signatures.
I did not receive any text messages in the following days about completion of the verification. (Not sure if it has got anything to do with not bribing).
3. Passport website status has been the following ever since:
GEP Verification Process has been initiated on your application. Once inputs from all the concerned Government Authorities are received, the Report will be shared with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). No queries would be entertained in relation to your GEP application status at the Passport Offices and PSP Call Centre. You may contact CBP for further updates on the processing of your GEP application.

I have since returned from India and have no idea what is going on. From the above status text it seems like I won't be getting any detailed status updates, I just have to keep checking the CBP website.
