That's a known benefit for elites. The E+ subscription T&Cs specifically states the companions need to be on the same PNR.
And the nixed used of miles and paid tickets will force multiple PNRs.
Best you can do is call and see if a agent might be generous. A problem will be is if there are any aircraft changes, even to a different tail number, you may lose the E+ for those on award tickets if there is a seat sweep.
