I was faced with the same situation as you in Nov 2017. I went to the Virgin lounge and pulled out my CAD Amex Plat to pay for the visit, but the agent at the lounge informed me that there was no charge as it was a benefit to Amex Plat. Now in fairness she may not have noticed it was a Canadian card, but I was quite happy with the outcome!
