If, on the other hand, there is no parting gift, or the parting gift arrives well before March 15, then I plan to close my account before March 15, so that my credit history shows "closed by consumer" rather than "closed by creditor".
I'm leery that some creditors may see any card that is "closed by creditor" as scored worse than "closed by consumer".
Interesting thought. There's no reason for me to keep hanging onto it, since I got my cert back in Nov. Might as well close it now and get more of my annual fee back, right? Wonder if they'll allow that?
