I purchase a P fare, and still at times wind up flying in the back while an upgrader on a cheap Y fare flies in the front. Incidentally, can someone please tell me what happens with PQM in such a case? If I accept Y routing on a P fare, am I looking at 100% PQM or ??
You can always request original routing credit if need be, that would be pretty easy to do. If you take a refund/downgrade for the entire trip to economy, it might be a bit harder, but probably still doable.
I think the flexibility that UA offers on these waivers is best in class. I don't usually travel in Biz (other then upgrades), but with a little creativity in routing, it's still possible to find something. That of course is up to how much you really care or free time you have to make it work.
