One of the less pleasant parts of my job is the inevitable trip to MWC in Barcelona in late February. I personally find everything about it from the travel (I just paid £1500 for LHR>BCN return for this year actually) to being in Barcelona that week to be quite unpleasant. Even if you can escape the inflated travel and hotel prices, restaurants and bars are packed, transport towards the convention centre is rammed, Last year it was ~110,000 people (or an instant, 1 week, population increase of ~7%). Historically, it's been something of a target for transport strikes just to add to the fun and games.
Without wishing to panic you or such, I would personally avoid being in the city that week, if you have family there then take a trip to the coast or something for the week with them...
Oh - I don't know about the trains first hand and I suspect it may be better than flights as it's a very international event, but I would assume the weekend of the 24th/25th and end of the week (Thursday 1st / Friday 2nd ) will be busier than usual on any transport.
