Rescheduling / any UA miles for economy / new passport / broken leg?

Hi there, please excuse my multi topic post... life has been messy lately as I shattered my right upper leg / femur. I am supposed to be flying to the Olympics in less than a month... direct from LAX to Seoul-Incheon, on Singapore Airlines. I've done some googling, reading on Singapore's website, etc but I have merely gotten some ideas, no confirmations or definites. I figured I'd come to the experts, you guys, if that's ok. FYI, my booking is economy K, booked in June of this year for about $750 RT.

A - CANCELLATION - If my leg is still too painful, albeit the lovely extra legroom from Singapore, and I have to cancel, I won't get any money back besides taxes? That's what their website suggests, and no I did not get travel insurance. Will they at least let me make a different trip in the future, to Korea or another destination, in the next 365 days? Doesn't seem to work the same as US airlines. Obviously this is me not cancelling due to indecision, rather injury. I will be devastated if I miss the Olympics.

B- CRUTCHES - If I can go, does anyone foresee crutches being an issue? Will they count as a carry on?

C- MILEAGE - I put in my United Airlines FF number, but after some further reading, am I right that I'll earn ZERO miles? Is there a recommended program instead? I mainly only have US programs...

D- PASSPORT - I had to renew my passport last month because it would only have about 10 weeks validity to it... I got my new passport, and passport card, and old passport returned. My old passport was not marked, destroyed, hole punched, etc in any way... is this passport still valid too?!

Thanks for your help on A-C, I understand if perhaps D needs to be it's own unique post... not specific to Singapore Air.

Thanks in advance,
-DJ
