Thank you for contacting the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Contact Center.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) limits quantities of alcohol based on the alcohol content (proof). Alcoholic beverages with more than 70 percent alcohol content (140 proof), including 95 percent grain alcohol and 150 proof rum, are not permitted in checked baggage.
You may take up to five liters of alcohol with alcohol content between 24 and 70 percent per person as checked baggage if it is in an unopened retail package. Alcoholic beverages with less than 24 percent alcohol content are not subject to hazardous materials regulations.
To view the complete regulations for alcoholic beverages, please visit
www.faa.gov/go/packsafe. We also recommend that you check with your air carrier for further instructions concerning traveling with alcohol, including any requirements for notifying an agent when checking baggage containing alcohol.
