What's happened here is the collapse of Monarch. BA at LGW are using one of their slots to run two services a day (rather than one on most days) at certain periods. Consequently - for those prepared to spend rather a long time in shorthaul - the prospect of an awayday to Marrakech, breakfast in Gatwick, lunch in Jama'a el Fnaa, back home for cocoa the same evening. Gets back to LGW at 21:45 hrs. And that's 160 TPs for the return trip in CE. Works on some Saturdays too. For the OP, there is a good chance of getting to the medina for 12 midday and it's only half an hour away from the airport. I would think in terms of a lunch and a look round the square, and perhaps the souq at the back the square. If you want some tangine earthware to bring home as a present, drop back a street or two (but make a mental note of the shops, it's so so so easy to get lost) and perhaps haggle a bit, the shopkeepers like that.
As much as I love day trips, I wouldn't call a lunch at Jama'a el Fnaa relaxing (and that comes from a person who walked outside of the airport to the main road to fetch a local bus for 2 dirham to city centre)

Now if BA started running services to Tangier, I would go for a lunch there!
