Misspelled name on ticket

I have booked tickets in Eco for LH-flights to Asia.
On one ticket there is one letter of the name wrong. My TA who booked the tickets was told by LH the name cannot be changed even for one letter and the TA should issue a new ticket. The original ticket is refundable for a fee. Once I had a similar problem, the check-in agent told me, that he would change the misspelled name in the APIS data successfully, because these are the only relevant data submitted for immigration. So I changed the name (again, only one letter) in the APIS data online and that worked ok. When my TA asked LH again, if this is ok, another agent confirmed that it would work.
I am not sure about the situation and I cannot add this booking to the relevant M&M account, because of the misspelled name. What is the opinion of the specialists here in that matter? Thanks for your feed back.
